We are really really close!

We continue to work around the clock at Vantage to get you your Snaps and continue to battle new challenges. Our contract manufacturer (“CM”) has had one SMT line down (the tool that puts the components on the circuit board of your Snap), which has delayed the completion of some of our boards. Our CM tells us that all boards will be complete on May 30th at the latest, which pushes out the first shipments to June 9th. We are building up subassemblies as we wait for the final assembled circuit boards, so we can minimize lost time in our overall production schedule from this delay.

Our software team is making ongoing improvements on all of the details needed to make flying Snap an awesome experience. Here is some of our most recent progress:

  • We’re steadily improving the reliability of our video and control data stream and the speed of reconnect on signal drops. We’re currently adding a number of fancy tricks to combine data packets, measure and adapt to latency issues in real time, and eek every last drop of performance we can out of our data link.
  • We’ve added exponential control for both the app controls and the bluetooth two stick controller (we’re overdue on sharing more on both of these!). Exponential control makes it possible to have very fine grained control for subtle slow movements without limiting top end speed.
  • Gimbal pitch control wasn’t as smooth as we wanted. We changed design of the communication link to send rotation rates instead of target angles and added exponential control to the app interface so now Snap does buttery smooth gimbal pitch angle adjustments.
  • The Return To Home now varies behavior to match the circumstance, so Snap returns home slowly at lower altitude from close distances and more quickly at higher altitude when further away. We find this strikes a better balance of avoiding distant obstacles and keeping the experience mellow when Snap is close.
  • We’re working on improving the image sharpness in 1080p mode, which currently is not quite to spec.
  • Snap occasionally didn’t stay in place perfectly during both hand and ground takeoffs. We’ve found the bug and fixed it.

We’re keeping busy steadily improving every aspect of Snap as we wait for these final components to be assembled.

We know Snap has required way more patience than from all of you than you hoped (it has for us as well!). And we aren’t the only ones in the world offering flying cameras that take good video. Given that we’re asking you to wait just a bit longer, this seems like a good time to remind you what makes Snap special in the world:

  1. Safety: Imagine if your SLR camera said, “DANGER: DO NOT USE NEAR PEOPLE!” Think about how that would limit your photo albums. There is not a single high performance flying camera available today that can be used responsibly near people. This massively limits the range of places that you can fly your open bladed models, the type of shots you can get, and the amount that you will end up flying. Snap is the only high performance flying camera in the world designed to make you and everyone around feel at ease and safe.
  2. Ease of Use: We’ve designed Snap to be the easiest to use high performance flying camera in the world. Snap’s interface enables you to set up shots based on high level goals and let software do the work instead of relying primarily on complex two stick controllers (although you can do that with Snap too!). Snap has more options for tracking shots and easier interfaces for beautiful pre-planned shots than anything else available. These automated shots are only really possible with a safe flying camera, as letting software take control is massively irresponsible in most settings with drones that don’t consider safety.
  3. Extensibility: Snap is the only flying camera that allows you to extend capabilities over time. We are developing rotor sets specifically designed for amazing tracking shots, silent operation, 1-hour flight times, and a range of other super-powers that let you extend what you can do with your Snap.
  4. Portability: Our friends in China are giving us a good run for our money here, but Snap remains the only high performance flying camera that you can take and use anywhere. The ability to take Snap with us all the time and use it as inspiration strikes continues to change how we see the world and light our creative fire.

Of course, what excites us most, is seeing what you will do with these capabilities. And that is very very close for both you and us. If you are in the first batch of orders, you will be receiving an email from us this week to confirm your address and other important details. We’ll keep you in the loop as we work through these final steps.

Thank you as always for sticking with us through this journey.

– Tobin, Joe, and the rest of the team at Vantage

I sure hope you don’t restrict the code and flying capabilities like DJI just did on their products.
I’ll bet you capture some of their business due to that update.

    Thanks for the update.

    @Tobin/Joe,
Thanks for this very informative update, it is good for you to share the problems you’ve had & the fixes put in place to correct these.
Have you a date in mind to say when all pre orders should be shipped by as I remember on a previous blog the end of July was mentioned?, just to give us all an idea.
    @Ron,
I’ve sent you an email with a header of “case”, glad to see the Snap invasion is starting shortly!!.

It will be great to see peoples own videos being shared shortly from all over the world.

Looking forward to the drop. Quick question, I assume the drone returns home on low battery?? But what happens if I start off on my bike and after 1 mile or so the battery gets low, does it go back to the start and I have to cycle back to get it?? Sorry it could be silly question πŸ™‚

Hey Dean, good question. You will have the option of having your Snap return to home or return to pilot.

Again, I find this hard to believe. You were “really close” back in November when you stated that you were just weeks away from shipping. That was 7 months ago!

Thank you for another detailed update! It is tough seeing Murphy show up yet again with that supplier. These updates are very valuable, we know they take time to craft to minimize mis-interpretation.

I am greatly encouraged by the notice to earliest pre-order folks to watch their email for address verification!

VR – you guys are persevering through all these Murphy visits and your hard work will bare fruit!

    Won’t be long now!

Is there anyway to tell us, the dates ordered for the units you’re shipping? Did that make sense? IOW something like “We’re trying to ship all units ordered before such and such a date” Or is that not something you can know?

    Thanks!

    • Ron Gryn says:

We will be shipping units based on order date and currently expect all pre-orders to be delivered by the end of July. We will get in touch with you to finalize shipping information as your ship date approaches.

  • I am encouraged by the fact you are posting updates. It suggests you actually have something to go on in terms of dates. I hope that this will be the last delay, but I am afraid I will only really believe it when I have snap in my hands.

I am establishing a garden and depot over three hectares of an old sawmill as part of my business and I have already missed winter. Spring will be gone soon too and summer doesn’t last all that long up here.

As many above, I would really like it if you can set out your shipping schedule for pre orders in more detail. I really want to know when I can start keeping a detail log of my progress as well as snapping my customers gardens and maybe a snippet of my family as well!

    Thanks

In the time it’s taken Vantage Robotics to (not) come out with Snap DJI has announced the Mavic, had it delayed, and released it. And now they’ve announced and started selling the Spark.

Only $499 and easy to attack propeller guards. Almost pocket size.

Do I need 4k? That’s the question I’ll be asking myself seriously over the next 24 hours and I encourage everyone else on this site to ask themselves the same question.

Ken, DJI are horrible. Why would you want to go with a company who regulate their drones performance against the wishes of the owners. Who brick all drones who’s owners fail to comply with DJI’s wishes. Who charge Aussies 25% (after currency exchange) more for their drones just because we are not American (Blatant discrimination). Who location block your flight experience.

There is alot of complaints here about VR having setbacks. Imagine if you got your Snap then VR bricked you for not bending over to their wishes…..

    Great update team awesome ?
One thing I don’t quite understand is do u have to have a complete order of boards to continue on with the next assembly stage, albeit u r already assembling rotors etc in anticipation of the boards arriving – can your supplier ship half an order so u can get the first preorders out?? Just wondering as I’m sure u have valid reasons for all your processes including QA considerations. Cheers ??

Thanks for info, most news are good news and I hope you will be successful with delivery in June. Do you plan to have a PAL version and if so can you give an estimate, when snap will be available with European Video Standards, e.g. 1080p50 etc? The above mentioned DJI Spark for example will be only available with 30 or 60 fps so it is totally useless for ambitious video amateurs, means its of competition for me.

    Hey Ken,

Was just looking at some reviews of the spark. Some of the features look really promising. I could prob live without 4k but the spark only shoots at 30fps i think. The footage from the spark does look great though. But one review said that you require the controller to achieve the 31mph speeds. It only goes 6mph when controlling with phone. I’m not sure if this applies to follow modes. I do really like the gesture controls though and the obstacle avoidance. I really think vantage should be offering the obstacle avoidance as standard to compete now as spark is also packing a tiny gimbal which looks to do an amazing job from what I’ve seen. Decisions decisions…

I haven’t commented on here in a very long time but I just wanted to let the community know from an actual consumer and not someone who works for any company or is endorsed by any company….. check out some reviews on the Mavic Pro’s Cages and you will find that they are god awful. Nothing like the Snap at all. They are 3 times louder and only give you HALF the flight time that the Snap gives you. The loudness of these cages almost makes them un-usable. Add in the fact that they are also a huge huge time consuming pain to put on, and that they render the quad extremely NON-Portable…. well….. they are definitely definitely no match for Snap.

DJI started shipping the cages only a few weeks ago and many people who have received them and tested them, including myself, are extremely disappointed in them. Lastly, the tracking shots on the Mavic Pro are still very lacking. You can only get out-and backs by staring downward at your controller….. great if you’re trying to do an out-and back from a hidden location and filming another person without you in the picture, but TERRIBLE if you are actually trying to get yourself and your wife or other family member in the shot together. They will be looking at the camera and you will have your head down looking at the silly controller. Snap in theory should be 100 times better at being able to get these more complex tracking shots. Also Snap is still the only full featured aerial platform that will allow for full range of changes in elevation. DJI drones only have terrain follow which is a completely different system and only works when the drone is very close to the ground. It’s extremely “spotty” and it doesn’t work with decreasing elevation, only increasing elevation.

Anyway, figured the community might want to hear all that and hopefully it will have you all excited for your Snap and it will also make the wait a bit more bearable on you. I’m definitely waiting impatiently to see the final product.

All the best. Can’t wait to see the final product.

@Kevin – you make a very strong point and exactly because of that I have kept hanging in here.

But after missing lots of ‘important dates’ I need to cut my loss at a certain point; would I rather use a half decent Mavic or Spark, that at least is available – or would I miss out again ? And I realise, for example for indoor gymnastics Snap will be the preferred solution, or possibly the only acceptable choice.
But can we trust the dates the VR gives us – can we hang in forever – I believe that I at least did the right thing to order the Spark for delivery in 2 weeks. If Snap arrives soon after, fine, great, even better – I am sure we can offload the DJI at a small loss (or none).
But with my order date I should be part of the 9 June shipping batch – so I would know loooong before since they say they will contact us to check shipping addresses.
And I trust they will also keep us posted on further delays – unthinkable but not impossible…

I hear ya Philip. I had my breaking point as well which was a fantasy destination wedding in a 18th century Castle in the Loire Valley of France. As much as I wanted Snap to be 100% ready by then, it wasn’t and so I had to settle (for now at least). Just like you said, once Snap is 100% shipping and video footage is all over youtube and she’s been tried and tested and reviewed and hopefully even has the wifi range extender out…. I think I will do exactly as you suggested. Cut some losses and try to sell the Mavic in favor of the Snap. Time will tell. I figured that at least a few people from the community would appreciate a Snap enthusiasts view on the Mavic Pro with the propeller cages. And not to knock it. It does work as intended. I smashed it pretty hard against the walls of a slot canyon more than once in Northern Arizona and those cages hold up well. But my god they are noisy, and a pain to put on, and super super Bulky, and most of all….. 10 minutes flight time. Ouch! Considering at 30% battery you really need to be bringing her back home….. BUT….. I did get the most amazing slot canyon drone shot probably to date. And I won’t be going back to Arizona for a long long long time. So ya know…. pros and cons. I really really really wish that Snap had been 100% fully ready in time. I would have been able to get a much better shot, rather than the one I did which was with me holding the stupid controller. lol.

Anywho. It’s like everyone else on this forums have said already. Feature wise, Snap looks to be much more superior if they can actually deliver, which I think they can. But for the time being, as of today….. well…. features on paper can’t compare to a drone in the sky. I prey that they ship June 9th bug free.

Things are really coming together guys! I did just watch the EIS enabled videos – Very nice!! I do find it very interesting that the new Spark only has a 2 Axis gimbal. So, Snap is not lagging behind the power curve with it’s 2 axis gimbal. Given that DJI went with a 2 axis, they too are confident with their vehicle’s yaw control for that plane of control. So, perhaps there will be continued room for improvement after launch, but Snap is REALLY starting to look more and more polished with each video posted on Vimeo.

I continue to follow the progress with extreme interest! The finish line is in reach!!

Unfortunately May 30th has passed and there is still no confirmation whether any shipment is going to happen. Thanks everyone for your input on the DJI Mavic. I appreciate the feedback. It seems like some of those struggles were resolved with the Spark.

Purchasing something from a company has as much to do with the integrity of the company as well as the quality of the product. Because of the lack of communication over the last 6 months and the inability to answer simple questions from the community, I do not have faith that VR will be the company that will keep me satisfied in the long term.

I will encourage others to think about whether VR is the right company to support their efforts for the long term. If a major bug is found, do you have faith that VR will be open about it and give clear timelines of when it will get fixed?

I hope everyone gets what they are hoping for and hope that VR is able to learn from their mistakes to improve and be a successful company.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Ken, I am sorry you feel that way. We are creating a revolutionary product that has never been made before, and the end is just around the corner. We are preparing to ship and the June 9th date is a goal we plan to make. We have released two updates in the past 25 days. We are sending out an email soon to verify the shipping addresses. We have been open about our struggles. We have expressed our gratitude for the continued support of the Snap community.

I’ve went back and forth on this. I too am not completely pleased with the continued delays. I guess the process is more complexed than I’m thinking for a startup company to develop a new drone of SNAP’s nature. My family owns a business and we do direct importing, have had delays in shipping for what ever reason and had to adjusted our expected delivery date. Now with that being said, we have never had to adjust an expected delivery date as crazily as VR has. Even if for some reason we had to switch to another vendor we were maybe looking at a few weeks at worst a couple of months delay. With this in mind I scratch my head of the shipping dates continually being pushed as far back as they have from their original shipping date. With this being said my biggest concern (and always has been) is how well are they going to be able to support SNAP into the future because of these huge delays and seemingly VR’s struggle with their supply chain. My two cents for what its worth.

In ending I’ve been very fortunate and blessed in life. I going to stick with SNAP as well as buy the Spark. They both can fill a need. I have a Phantom 4 and cut the hell out of my arm (yes totally my fault). The fully guarded SNAP blades are a huge benefit for me. Unlike most of you I’m not in a huge rush, but as most people, I’m excited to get the new product in my hands sooner than later that I have already paid for. So I’ll take the risk that comes along with VR’s SNAP while also supporting the new start up company. If you have patience I would take the risk and stick by VR and SNAP. When we all placed our pre-orders that pretty much the risk we took. It’s no different than giving a complete stranger money for what ever reason.

I hope you all have a blessed day and look forward to seeing all your snap videos when ever that may be.

    Cheers!!!!!

    • Ron Gryn says:

Thanks for the continued support and patience. Snap’s protected blades will help to make sure your arm doesn’t get cut up again. We are planning on a first large shipment by June 9th and planning on shipping out all the pre-orders before the end of July.

  • GodotSnap says:

What matters in the end is whether the product is ready & available when you need it & if it does what you want it to do. None of the early pre-order customers have held a Snap or flown it (excluding the beta testers) yet… One can be hopeful Snap will be better than Spark with the same 2-axis gimbal but so far based on all the videos I’ve seen on VR’s vimeo account vs. all the DJI Spark videos, I have to say that Spark looks way better than Snap in terms of final product (video smoothness, sharpness/contrast, exposure accuracy, control, etc). Spark may not have all the specs Snap has, being limited to 1080p30, vs Snap’s 4K and more choices of 1080p… But DJI is way ahead of VR in terms of maturity of their product line.

So I purchased/pre-ordered the DJI Spark which will be shipped as advertised around June 15th and when I receive it a few days later, I will be quite confident that it works as advertised given what I’ve seen already online.
And if I don’t receive my Snap by then (I highly doubt it since I’m a Jan 2017 buyer), I will have to cancel my pre-order alas…

Given the track record thus far with Snap’s delay, I wouldn’t hold my breath as far as them having the bandwitdh or resources addressing issues after product is shipped….

Best case scenario is the very early 2015 buyers get theirs shipped mid-to-end of June and those way behind in the pipeline will get it 3 to 6 months later… But any rollout is subject to all kinds of unexpected incidents, and being such a small startup like VR, with very limited resources, I am not optimistic about their support capabilities given the track record exhibited thus far.

It’s good to reply to comments and we’re very grateful you are doing it, but it’s best to actually get the product out there for people to use. I really applaud those early customers from 2015 who have stuck to keeping their pre-orders and in awe at their patience… I wouldn’t have been able to wait, and would have long moved on… Being from Jan 2017 pre-order batch, I already am feeling quite upset at the delays, as I miss out on so many projects without a drone right now.

Hopefully you guys at VR will prove me wrong, and ship my Snap before mid-summer as you stated for the last batches… In the meantime, I will enjoy my Spark when I get it…

Still rooting for you guys to prove me wrong & deliver my Snap on time! I’ve lost too many opportunities waiting for Godot Snap!

I really really hope that the final expanded product is all that it is hopes to be.

I still believe that Snap…. with the wi-fi rang extender, 1 hour endurance rotor set and 360 degree obstacle avoidance module WILL in fact be probably the best featured drone on the market. HOWEVER. I also believe that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be the best featured smart phone to ever hit the market. Or maybe it will be the I-phone 10! Point is…. I’m extremely excited for the end product and hopefully through large sale volumes and continued competition that VR will make the decision to remain price competitive in the market.

I do have major concerns for the very very old Amberella SOC and its lack of 4K EIS on a 2 axis gimbal. Perhaps Snap 2.0 will use a newer chip that isn’t over 4 years old and that Snap 2.0 will be able to film 4K with EIS just like the Yi 4K+ action cam can. Granted 1080p is really all that anyone needs. I’m just really disappointed that VR is using such an old technology SOC. I get it though…. Snap was supposed to be out in the consumer world a year ago. Still….the new SOC’s were available 2 years ago and VR should have known full well that their old cheaper Amberella A9 was NOT capable of EIS at 4K where as the newer SOC that was available during development of Snap WAS fully capable of EIS at 4K.

Anyway. Not a big deal. Just a huge disappointment if you ask me. Since VR has constantly used the term. “Silky-Smooth 4K footage”

I’m a little doubtful on that “silky Smooth” BUT I am super excited to be proven wrong and super super excited for the full final 1 hour flight time, 360 Obstacle avoidance 1500 Meter range, product.

Hover was announced way after snap, yet hit the market way before snap. Granted, not as “complex” and “advanced,” but at least they promised and new how to launch a product. As I’ve said before, wTch out when their version 2.0 is released… which promises to have a gimbal, and which is right around he corner. Would be pretty pathetic if it is available before snap.

Sorry to repear my question but it is very important for potential european users: Do you plan to have a PAL version and if so can you give an estimate, when snap will be available with European Video Standards, e.g. 1080p50 etc? The above mentioned DJI Spark for example will be only available with 30 or 60 fps so it is totally useless for ambitious video amateurs, means its off competition for me.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Andreas, a PAL version is possible. We are always looking for ways to enhance Snap. We are currently focused primarily on getting Snap into customers hands. I do not have a timetable for when a PAL version would be ready.

I also have not seen a reaction that seems to indicate the ‘free case’ is indeed there.

In short – make me see it soon, guys ! The proof is in the eating and if you confirm shipping those first orders (that I am part of`) and don’t deliver a week after that statement, the bottom under the confidence in VR – and in its future – is really tested heavily.

June 15 my newly ordered Spark should ship – cancellable and always sellable – but if June 18 does not bring a Snap here, I really think this is over, for me – with lots of regrets !

Talking about the case… In a sneak peak a while back VR showed a white hard case and hinted at it having some sort if magnetic closure. It looked pretty cool to me. Would love to see another update on the case. Thanks

Great idea Joe. We have been focused on getting this first large shipment out the door. I’ll try to get you an update on the case.

I don’t remember if this was covered, are you using a camera lens size compatibly/generic so I can put a CPL or polarized filter on it that is already out on the market? or are we going to have to wait for you to make-it / out-source?
I am just trying to hit the ground RUNNING and if you have something in the pipeline it would be great to know where to get them, most us taking Video of the outside in the midday need a polarized filter at the very lest.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Bill, we will be offering a CPL in the near future. We have prototypes already made. A filter is one of the first accessories we plan to offer. I do not believe that there is a CPL on the market already that will work with Snap. Thanks for the great question.

These guys have “promised” delivery in the past when other drones… the hover, mavic, and GoPro were all announced. Well, all three of those have been delivered… and we are still waiting on the snap. Looks like it will be the same case with the spark.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Scott, We designed and built a unique drone from the ground up and are preparing shipping for our first large order. No other drone offers the safety, ease of use, and has pre-programmed autonomous modes like Snap. We plan to have all pre-ordered Snaps shipped by the end of July.

  • Fady says:

I really had lot of faith in this company. I did my pre-order in October 2015, I talked to lot of people about it and convinced a friend to get one (got $100 cash back for that!). I believe if Snap does everything they prescribed, it will be the best drone in the market. but after over 1 year of delays, and “really really close” announcements, I really don’t have anymore faith, they gave lot of promises and nothing happened. Even if they delivered snap, I believe the support will be horrible at the beginning. I remember at CES (Jan 2016) when one of the judges asked Tobin Fisher when he is planning to deliver snap and he told her after 6 months but they didn’t start the production yet, she was shocked and she told him good luck with that. Now I understand why she was shocked, looks like Vantage robotics put unrealistic plan. I got phantom 1 from DJI longtime ago and the support was horrible at that time, but you can see now they are the biggest drone company in the market, I really wish Vantage robotics will be there one day. Unfortunately I couldn’t wait more and I lost my faith so I requested a refund and pre-order in the same day Spark from DJI. but I wish I can go back to vanatage robotics for my next drone ( may be Snap V2 by that time ). I wish you guys all the best.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Fady, We also believe Snap is going to be one of the best drones on the market. We are extremely grateful for all the support and patience many people have shown us. The delays have been frustrating to everyone involved. Our hard work and dedication have paid off. Snap is amazing. No other drone offers the ease of use, safety, performance, and autonomous flight modes like Snap. We are preparing shipments and about to get Snap into our customers hands.

I can’t wait to see everyone’s video’s and experiences and reviews of Snap posted on youtube. June will truly be a remarkable time for VR. Once users get their video’s up on youtube for the world to see, everything is going to change. For better or for worse.

    Ron,
In your response to Paul E. C. you mentioned Snap works with separately purchased DSM controllers, and you guys use a Specktrum brand controller – back in December you guys made note that due to the lack of demand for this feature the DSM module will be an add on module. Is that still the case, or did you guys re incorporate the on PCB DSM capability? Thanks!

    • Ron Gryn says:

Still no evidence this will ship on the 9th. $5 says no. My money is still on this not being available until the fall.

Thanks for the input! I just double checked my order date, and it was actually October 1, 2015. It would be nice if as a community, we kept a running list of when people ordered and when they get their shipping email so everyone else can get a better idea of when they might expect theirs.

@ryan H, I am really not sure why Vantage robotics is keeping the shipment dates/plan secret until this moment they didn’t announce any plan when everyone will get his drone. Also I know that pre-order was opened sept 2015, not sure why people who pre-ordered 1st week of September are not from the BETA testers (one of them here didn’t even get a confirmation email for shipment!!). Moreover, I am not sure why people who got the confirmation emails didn’t write anything on this blog….something fishy…

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Fady, we are excited to announce that we are shipping. We have been telling everyone we can. We have sent out confirmation emails to the first bunch of customers and are sending out more emails this afternoon. We are shipping orders in order of purchase. We are happy people want to fly Snaps, and we are doing everything we can to get Snaps into our customers’ hands.

    Fady,
I completely agree, and that’s why I’m hoping to get this information community-generated. When did you place your pre-order? In addition to being confused as to why they can’t give benchmarks (i.e. people who ordered before December 2015 are the first 25% of orders, a stat that should take all of 2 minutes in Excel to figure out), since I placed my order almost 2 years ago, I’m afraid/paranoid that my confirmation number was lost on their end and that I won’t receive a shipping email when my turn comes up.

I’ve been trying to stay calm and patient, but I’ll soon be leaving for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Colombia where I NEED a drone for my job as a conservation biologist to start measuring forest fragmentation. If I can’t figure out if I will be receiving my Snap by July 8th, I will be forced to cancel my pre-order against my desires and order a Mavic. At that point, any drone will be better than no drone πŸ™

Reminds me of back when it appeared like no one was receiving their Mavic Pros due to DJI’s shortage.

I remember there was a guy who made a massive spreadsheet with over 800 people’s names (they entered them in manually) anyway. Long story short….. like 90% of people had not received a shipping confirmation number but the 10% that did at least gave the rest of them a lot of hope.

There are quite a few people on these boards that ordered within the first 10 days. However it’s amazing how many orders can be placed on day 1. I have no doubt that the day 1 orders must be massive. However I’m also surprised that no one who placed an order on day 1, say even 1 to 3 is on these boards. Still they might make-up the un-vocal 90%. I think us blog peps are the super vocal 10%. Maybe even 1%. lol.

My order date is Sept.7,2015- one of the earliest I can presume. I anticipate many will get their notification soon also.
For those wondering, I was invited to the beta testing program in late January but opted out of it in exchange for waiting for the final polished and tweaked product. I understand all your frustrations, as I also was. But VR has been transparent on its operations and updates as far as I am concerned.
Congratulations VR on your launch of Snap. I look forward to more future updates, support and accessories to be made available.

Ron, I noticed no mention of a DSM module in Carls email has this been rebuilt into the main circuit?

    From 08Nov16 blog:

Second, we have decided take a slightly different approach regarding DSM support: we are going to offer a free DSM module to pre-order customers who want it and ordered before Nov 10, 2016. This will be an additional accessory that non-pre-order customers, and customers who order after Nov 10, 2016, will have to purchase.

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Chris, you are correct. The DSM module has not been built into the main circuit. We plan to offer a DSM module accessory in the future.

Thanks to Gerard and Carl for the comforting confirmation, that indeed, the shipping verification and confirmation emails are starting to be received! The time has come for everyone’s patience to pay off! Good things come to those who wait right?
I can only imagine what it has been like for the VR team to persevere through all the set backs, and challenges through the last 4.5 – 5 year time frame to finally get to this point, true character is revealed when a person (or company) is squeezed by challenges and set backs.
I admire the team and their continued enthusiasm despite having to revise shipping targets time after time, many times due to circumstances outside of their direct control. Laying the foundation for a successful logistics chain is no easy feat, as most of us avid followers have witnessed. And, quoting VR – bringing new tech to the market is not easy for a start up πŸ™‚
As I mentioned before – the rubber is hitting the road – All the hard work, long hours, and ground laying is about to pay off! Congratulations to Tobin, Joe, and the entire VR team!

Hi, this is what you can get when you buy the snap.
    What’s in the box
Snap, battery, charger, carrying case, full set of spare props, Quick Start Guide, 8 GB microSD card

but the email you are sending for pre-orders says that:
“We will be shipping your extra battery and case in a separate second shipment at a later date. If you would like to wait until all of your purchase is ready, we can accommodate that. Simply respond that you prefer to wait until you can receive everything at once.”

So it means that we will get the drone without case at first time? what’s going on with the rest of items? I understand that the extra battery is just a “reward” for the delays (I am really grateful for that), but the rest, I understand that must be included in the first shipping.
    Regards

Hello David, you are correct. We are shipping everything in your list. We will be shipping the extra battery and the case in later shipments for those that choose. We are willing to ship everything in one single shipment, but those who wish that will have to wait a little longer.

Hi Philip, we haven’t released the app to the public yet. We are waiting for last step in the approval process. When our customers receive their Snaps they will be able to fly them. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we clear the last of these hurdles.

so there is a link to the beta app ? or what will them control the flight ?

What really concerns me that once we get the Snaps (still waiting for the email…) we should also like to order spare parts and have support – it VR up to that ?

And why can we not have additional (and long ago promised) parts shipped at the same time as the Snap itself ?

Sorry guys – I am critical but constructive but you just do not live up to it yet…

    • Ron Gryn says:

Hi Philip, we are offering our customers the choice of how they want their extras shipped. If you would prefer to have everything shipped in one single shipment, we will gladly do that for you. Just respond to your shipping verification email as such, and we will hold your shipment until we can ship it in one shipment. Vantage Robotics has set up various ways to offer customer support. We have phone lines, email, and we are working on setting up pop up chat button to our website. We are setting up a new sales avenue where our customers can customize their shopping carts. We are ready to support our customers the way they supported us through this journey. Thanks.

Additional question concerning the “posssible” PAL Version: Allthough it will take a little longer to enhance the Snap for support of 1080p50 or p25 it would be very interesting for me to know which strategy you will choose. Will PAL support be an update to the actual delivered version of Snap (e.g. European customers would be interested to buy Snap right now to start experimenting) or do you expect to have a seperate PAL version of Snap (because you need special hardware inside, f.e.), meaning we have to wait buying Snap for a longer time?

Ken, whist you may have paid good money, a comparison to DJI is not apples for apples. DJI are a much older and established company. I have bought many DJI items over the years, the first in 2011 long before many people had ever heard of them and I can say I have dealt with warranty issues and problems in the hardware that caused crashes and repeated unstable performance. I say support the new guy, DJI need some competition. Matt T

What I do not get is that you do not release the App, but you are shipping. How can people control the Snap then ?

And if they need more parts – e.g. the promised extras for pre-orders – there is nothing on the site for now.
And yet, the first official shipments should reach people tomorrow.

Also- please give us some info on the pace you are shipping – when shipment relating to a specific order week go out.
