12/18 Shipping Update

The long awaited PCBA delivery is nearly complete, but not yet done. Out of the 12 PCBAs, there are 7 done, 3 in transit, and 2 being re-run to address issues we found with the first samples. We hope to have all boards in by the end of this week and then can finally put the pedal down on building the next batch of units. We may be able to crank out some prior to Christmas, but our expectation is that we won’t be shipping at full speed until the week after Christmas. In the meantime, we continue to build sub-assemblies, more jigs and fixtures for accelerating production, and tune details of the assembly process to the extent possible.

On the software front, we submitted a major Android update, which adds Out and Back shots, improves Free Follow shots, and fixes a bug with high frame rate video.

Although I am very disappointed in the progress, I do thank you for the frequent updates. Short and to the point is much better than long explanations every couple months.

With the added delays on the boards, can we assume there has been time to produce a stockpile of batteries and that the extra battery promised to early purchasers can be shipped with the Snap Drone, instead of separately?

    Thanks.

When you say 12 PCBAs, is that 12 individual boards to make 12 Snaps?

Did all of the PCBA’s arrive? Any drones going out soon? I made it through X-mas with my relatives’ (plural) quick jabs about my drone still not making it.

    How’s that 2nd battery looking?

    • James Squires says:

Sorry for the jabs Jeff. I got plenty myself as well. I don’t have anything new to share right now, but we will try to send out a quick update shortly.

Still waiting, although less patiently now.

Pre-ordered Sept 2, 2015 for a “Spring 2016 delivery.” I would think that would be one of the first orders, but still nothing, and now pushing two years behind schedule. Seven months ago (6 June 2017), I received an email to verify my address, as they were “shipping my Snap to me soon.” Well that was a complete waste of someone’s time; I mean, how many people have moved in the last 7 months?

Also, Jack, Jeff, and others have a good point. Since you’ve told us you’re waiting on specific parts, but “haven’t been idle,” one must think that you’ve been hard at work on other components and manufacturing. I assume that means that us early pre-orders should receive our promised extra battery and DSM module with the Snap instead of at a later date? There’s certainly been time to fabricate all these extra batteries and modules in the meanwhile.

By the way, who are these people posting reviews after receiving their Snaps? When did THEY have to order a Snap to already have one?

    This is getting extremely frustrating.

    • James Squires says:

Sorry to frustrate you here Sean. The DSM module is a new accessory. We are working on designing it now, but it involved totally different hardware that we haven’t sourced yet. The battery also has a PCBA in it. We have built a lot of them, but want to make sure everyone gets one before people start getting two. We will be coming out with another update shortly.

So I was told I’d have Snap for my India trip last March, and again for my adv ride around Australia last October, and again twice for my first Mountaineering trip (starts in 12 hours). You think I’ll have it for South India this March?
